How it Works

CRICITAL HOME REPAIR PROGRAM

Pursuant to a settlement of two court cases (Senior Trust/Elder Trust) grants were established and the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD) is charged with the oversight of the grant administration.  Four areas were selected based on statewide need and a history of limited resources.  Senior Affordable Housing was one of these needs.  In January 2019, Jefferson County Habitat was approved by TCAD and the court to participate in housing portion (Aging in Place) of the grant.  This is a 3-year grant and Jefferson County Habitat is contracted to serve 47 homeowners.
The Aging In Place program focuses on accessibility/mobility needs and critical home repairs for homeowners age 60 or older.  The program seeks to help a person live in their home longer and maintain their independence.

You might be asking, what are the eligibility requirements for this program.  They are:
  • At least one resident is age 60 or older.
  • The applicant owns and lives in the home in Jefferson County and this is the only home they own.  If a mobile home or manufactured home, they must own both it and the property on which it is located.
  • Property taxes are current.
  • Mortgage is current.
  • Meet the household income guidelines for the program.

The types of jobs we have done for these seniors have been:
  • Wheelchair ramps; deck repairs
  • Bathroom modifications such as walk-in showers; shower seats; grab bars; ADA height toilet
  • Window repairs; Roofs; Flooring repairs; water heaters

The only cost to the homeowner is $12.00 (filing fee) if they live in the home for an additional 5 years.  If you know of anyone who could benefit from this program, please fill out the interest form below.

The funding for this project was provided through a grant awarded by the Davidson County Chancery Court, Part III from the Senior Trust/Elder Trust settlement (Case No. 11-1548-III) and through a contract administered by the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability.
